Dennis Karr

Prior to co-founding the firm with Tim in 2018, Dennis built a successful track record in management and in various roles associated with private equity. From 2009 to 2018 he served Baird Capital as an Operating Resource and assisted with the assessment of potential acquisitions and participated in the governance of two portfolio companies. In 2007 and 2008 he served Sensata Technologies as Senior Vice President and Power Controls Business Unit Manager. From 1995 to 2007 Dennis led Airpax Corporation as president and CEO. Airpax was a leading global manufacturer of mission critical protective controls and sensors in a diverse range of end-markets. Airpax was a subsidiary of Philips Electronics when Dennis joined the company in 1983. He was awarded the Philips Quality Leadership Award in 1996. He continued his success as Airpax CEO with Industrial Growth Partners when they acquired Airpax in 1999 and with Chicago Growth Partners and Norwest Equity Partners when they acquired the company in 2004. Prior to joining Airpax, Dennis worked in engineering roles in the Metals and Controls division of Texas Instruments. Dennis has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Science in Engineering Science degree from the University of Toledo, a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian History degree and a Master of Arts in History-Global Interaction and Exchange degree from the University of Maryland.

Tim Fries

Before co-founding the firm with Dennis in 2018, Tim was most recently a Senior Associate with Baird Capital’s US Private Equity group, serving as the mid-level investment team member for the Global Industrial Solutions sector team.  In this role, Tim was responsible for leading and supporting all aspects of the investment process from investment thesis development and deal sourcing through deal execution and portfolio management. Tim is also the co-founder of Lakeview Capital, an investment firm founded in 2016 that makes early stage investments in e-commerce and digital media solutions, crypto and tokenized asset platforms, and blockchain technology ventures. 

Before joining Baird, Tim served as a Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt with GE’s Energy Services. Prior to which, he held various roles in engineering and operations management across GE’s Infrastructure, Energy, and Power & Water business units.

Tim graduated cum laude with a BSE in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. He also earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt.

Evan Yagel

Evan joined Protective Technologies Capital to assist the firm with deal sourcing and finding new potential acquisitions for the firm. He has also helped automate the entire process by implementing CRM packages to track and coordinate new deals. Prior to joining PTC, he has had numerous internship experiences including working for White Oak Global Advisors as a Private Debt Summer Analyst. Mr. Yagel will be graduating from the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in December 2021 with a double major in Finance and Business Analytics.

Matt LaFlash

Matt joined the PTC team in August 2021 as an intern mainly providing deal sourcing and due diligence work. Originally from Massachusetts, Matt has previous internship experience in both asset management and wealth management. Matt is currently in his final year at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, where he will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in May 2022.

Jack Beisel

Jack joined the Protective Technologies Capital team in September as an intern to develop and execute investor outreach. Jack is currently a Senior at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business pursuing a Bachelor of Science dual degree in Finance and Supply Chain Management (expected graduation May 2022). Jack has also been selected to participate in the Smith School’s Banking and Private Wealth Management Fellowship program and is a Dean’s List student. He has previous experience as a wealth management intern and enjoys competing on the Men’s Club Lacrosse team at UMD.
